FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Uncanniks?
Our mission is to unveil aspects of consciousness through theatrical presentations and non-linear storytelling. Rooted in the concept of the “uncanny valley” now applied to human consciousness, we embrace the exploration of the mind through immersive experiences combining theatre, sound and metaphysics, to challenge perceptions of human identity and reality.
What does “Uncanniks” mean, and where does the name come from?
The name draws inspiration from the famous “uncanny valley” concept—originally coined by roboticist Masahiro Mori in 1970 to describe the eerie discomfort felt when something -like a robot- is almost, but not perfectly, human-like. Uncanniks extends this idea to human consciousness itself: that unsettling yet fascinating space where familiar perceptions of reality, identity, and the self begin to feel strangely alien, revealing deeper, hidden dimensions.
This represents the Uncanny Generation, a dissident movement challenging the “consciousness establishment,” pushing back against longstanding beliefs, traditions, limits, and stigmas that restrict open exploration of the mind’s full potential. Through its theatrical productions, Uncanniks stages new possibilities, creating structured opportunities for audiences to engage with alternative perceptions of reality.
What can I expect during an Uncanniks performance?
Unlike traditional theater, there are no assigned seats; the audience stands and is placed directly within the narrative space, surrounded by the actors and elements of the production. There is no spoken text, no dialogue among the actors, and no narrated explanations. The entire progression relies solely on action and reaction. Meaning arises from observation, bodily resonance, and individual interpretation rather than verbal guidance.
Are Uncanniks shows suitable for everyone?
No, Uncanniks shows are not suitable for everyone.
They may evoke strong emotional, psychological, or physiological responses and are not intended as casual entertainment. Our shows are recommended only for adults who are comfortable with experimental, boundary-pushing work. Parental guidance is advised; the shows are not appropriate for children.
How long does a typical performance last?
We don’t not have a fixed performance length, as each event is structured differently depending on its specific format and intent. Durations vary considerably, ranging from 20 minutes to as long as 90 minutes. Some pieces are designed to be compact and intense, while others unfold more gradually to allow for deeper perceptual shifts. The exact length of any given event is usually confirmed closer to the date.
How do I buy tickets for upcoming shows?
Uncanniks announces upcoming events and Invocations primarily through its official website and social media channels. When a new event is scheduled, details including date, venue, duration, and ticket links are posted there first. Tickets are sold through established platforms such as Eventbrite and similar services. Sales typically open a few weeks in advance and are handled on a first-come, first-served basis, as capacity is limited. We recommend checking the website or following the social feeds regularly for notifications, as events are not on a fixed schedule.
What is your refund or exchange policy?
Uncanniks tickets are sold through third-party platforms such as Eventbrite or similar services, and all purchases are subject to the terms and conditions of the respective ticketing provider. In general, all ticket sales are final, with no refunds or exchanges offered for change of mind, scheduling conflicts, or inability to attend. Refunds are only processed automatically in the rare event of a full cancellation or postponement by Uncanniks, in accordance with the platform’s policy (typically returned to the original payment method). We do not offer credits, transfers, or exceptions outside of these circumstances. Attendees are encouraged to review the specific terms at checkout on the ticketing site and consider their plans carefully before purchasing, given the limited capacity and experimental nature of the events.
Are there age restrictions for attending?
Yes, Uncanniks events are strictly for adults aged 18 and over.
The performances involve intense, non-verbal immersive experiences that explore altered states of awareness through sensory stimulation, close physical proximity, and themes that can be psychologically challenging or disorienting.
The shows frequently incorporate nudity—performers that may appear partially or fully nude as an integral part of the work. Attendees should ensure they are comfortable with nudity and experimental content before purchasing tickets.
Are there any health warnings or considerations?
Uncanniks performances involve sensory elements similar to those found at many indoor concerts and attendees should be aware of the following:
The events include variable lighting, with periods of low or dim light and occasional brighter moments. Sound levels can range from very quiet to loud, including low-frequency tones, and the space may use light haze or fog for atmospheric effect.
Performances require extended periods of standing and quiet focus in a shared indoor environment with limited movement. For these reasons, the events are not recommended for those with severe light or sound sensitivities, or relevant medical concerns.
Pregnant women or anyone with related health conditions should consult a professional beforehand. If you feel unwell during the performance, you may quietly leave the space at any time. Attendance is at your own discretion.
Is the experience accessible for people with disabilities?
Individuals with mobility impairments who use wheelchairs or require assistance may attend if accompanied, provided they can navigate the specific venue conditions. However, we cannot ensure full physical accessibility in every case.
There are no dedicated seating areas, audio descriptions, sign language interpretation, or assisted listening devices provided. Venue layouts vary by event, and structural features such as ramps, elevators, or other accommodations cannot be guaranteed.
We encourage anyone with access needs to contact us in advance via the website contact form for the specific event, so we can share detailed venue information and assess feasibility on a case-by-case basis. Attendance is ultimately at the individual’s discretion.
What should I wear or bring to a show?
Uncanniks performances may involve close proximity to performers, physical elements, or unexpected interactions that could result in your clothing getting lightly stained, damp, or wet (e.g., from water-based effects, food, or liquids). For this reason, wear comfortable, casual clothing that you don’t mind potentially getting dirty or wet. Choose older or inexpensive items—nothing fancy, delicate, or dry-clean-only. Large bags or backpacks are not allowed in the performance space. Travel light with only essentials in pockets or a small bag.
Does the performance involve food, scents, or other sensory props?
Food is present as part of specific elements, such as a ritual banquet sequence integrated into the performance. This involves staged use of food items by performers —handled, thrown, shared, or transformed in subtle, deliberate ways— but no food is distributed, consumed, or offered to the audience. It serves solely as a prop within the action and reaction.
Scents may be present in subtle forms, such as aromas arising naturally from the food or other materials, introduced sparingly for atmospheric effect.
Other sensory props (such as water-based mist, light haze, fabrics, or natural substances) may appear in certain pieces, potentially causing slight dampness or contact with clothing.
Are there potential allergens in the show?
Yes, there may be potential allergens present during Uncanniks performances, though they are used sparingly and are not central to the experience. As part of the ritual banquet sequence, performers handle real food items, including fruits, breads, herbs, other natural ingredients, and animal meat (such as prepared cuts of beef, poultry, or similar). Common allergens like gluten, dairy, citrus, or meat-related proteins may be included, depending on the specific piece. No food is distributed to or consumed by the audience, but trace particles, crumbs, juices, or aromas could be released into the air.
If you have severe food allergies (including to meat), airborne sensitivities, asthma, or reactions to scents/fog, please assess your risk carefully before attending. We recommend consulting a medical professional if needed, and note that the environment cannot be guaranteed allergen-free. Attendance is at your own discretion.
Can I opt out of interacting with food or sensory elements?
Yes, to a limited extent, it is possible to minimize direct exposure to the food or sensory elements by positioning yourself farther from the central action. The ritual banquet sequence and other sensory props are performed by the actors in specific areas of the shared space. While aromas, trace particles, or atmospheric effects (such as light haze) will still circulate throughout the venue and cannot be fully avoided, choosing to remain toward the edges or back of the performance area can reduce proximity to the more active zones where food is handled or materials are manipulated. Audience members do not directly touch, handle, or consume any elements—there is no forced participation—but passive exposure through observation and shared air is inherent to the format. If you have allergies, strong sensitivities, or prefer greater distance, we recommend arriving early to select a more peripheral position (on a first-come basis). However, we cannot guarantee complete separation or an allergen-free environment.
How interactive is the experience?
Uncanniks performances are immersive but not actively interactive in the conventional sense. Audience members do not speak, touch performers, handle props, or participate in directed actions. There is no forced involvement or audience participation segment. The experience is designed for observation and presence within the shared space. You remain free to move slowly, adjust your position (e.g., to stay farther from the central action), or observe from your chosen vantage point. Your proximity, gaze, and bodily presence contribute to the overall atmosphere, but the progression is driven entirely by the performers’ actions and reactions. If you prefer minimal engagement, arriving early to choose a more distant or peripheral spot is recommended. The work relies on collective witnessing rather than individual intervention.
Do I have to participate actively, or can I just observe?
No active participation is required in Uncanniks performances.
The audience is strictly a witness. Attending the performance is the participation: by being there, you complete the collective act of witnessing, but you are not part of the story, narrative, or action itself. There is no speaking, touching performers, handling props, or any form of intervention allowed. You may not interact with the action in any way. You are free to stand still or move slowly and discreetly to adjust your viewpoint. The work is driven entirely by the performers, and the integrity of the experience depends on the audience maintaining this boundary as observers.
What if I feel overwhelmed during the show?
If at any point during the performance you feel overwhelmed, uncomfortable, or simply need a break, you are free to quietly leave the performance space at any time. You may step out, take a moment in a quieter area, or choose to leave the venue entirely. No explanation is required, and re-entry is not permitted once you exit. Your well-being is the priority, and leaving discreetly is always respected and supported. Many attendees appreciate knowing this option is available, even if they end up staying for the full duration.
Is photography or recording allowed?
We strongly encourage you to fully immerse yourself in the live experience without the distraction of devices, as this preserves the intensity and intimacy of the performance for yourself and others in the audience. That said, small pocket-sized cameras (without detachable lenses) and mobile phones are permitted inside the performance space. For the safety of our performers and the comfort of all attendees, the following rules apply:
- No flash photography at any time.
- Photographs and short videos are allowed only from below the shoulder level (i.e., no raising devices above head or shoulder height).
- No professional equipment, tripods, selfie sticks, or detachable lenses.
- Audio recording is not permitted.
- Phones must remain silenced throughout.
Will I be photographed or filmed during the show?
Yes, it is possible that you may appear in photos or videos taken during an Uncanniks performance. Audience members are permitted to take personal photos and short videos (following the guidelines provided), which means other attendees may incidentally capture you in the background or as part of wider shots of the space.
Additionally, our team occasionally documents performances with stills or short clips for archival or promotional use. These are taken sparingly and focus primarily on the work itself, but audience members may appear incidentally in collective or atmospheric images.
